Here you’ll learn symbols and patterns that harness your imagination’s natural power and finally let your story out onto the page. We’ll train the imagination to become even more vivid, we’ll train your heart in “creative jiu jitsu” so that you can turn every emotion in your life into a story, and we’ll train you how to clear out the mental clutter and focus your storytelling powers.

We’re also going to examine the timeless stories, dig deep to understand what a good story actually is, and discover what makes the timeless ones last.

In addition, you’ll learn a huge toolbox of techniques to express your story as clear, consistent prose. You’ll mimic great authors as you prepare to develop your own unique voice, and gain a huge vocabulary for all the working parts of storytelling.

In this course, you will:

• Write short projects to practice various skills

• Write guided, semester-long projects to level up your personal creative goals

• Work on a year-long project, with teacher and group feedback, with the goal of developing it for publication.
